Leadership in Religious Education: A Critique from the Australian Perspective
In partnership with the Office of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Honolulu, a leadership program is offered for Catholic school principals, education administrators, or teachers, aspiring to administrative roles. The program is designed to ground students in a philosophy of education rooted in the Catholic understanding of the human person and the human community.
It draws from historical and contemporary Catholic and non-Catholic thought to help the student shape a coherent understanding of the vocation of Catholic schools for the Church and the wider society. Includes advanced study of development theory, research and application, and prepares graduates to work with children and their families, teach at the college level or pursue a doctoral degree in childhood development or a related field. Provides a practical and dynamic program that prepares experienced teachers and education professionals for administrative positions in K or higher education.
Offers educators advanced theory in leadership in the classroom, with an emphasis on the application of educational research and design. Geared toward students who already have a Montessori Credential, and who want to build on their knowledge with additional coursework, including Montessori development, philosophy, and teaching methods. In partnership with Teach for America TFA , graduates of the program are able to receive their certification within the Master of Eduction program. This program is open only to TFA corps members.
Geared toward those interested in seeking non-administrative leadership roles that support teaching and learning, such as resource teachers, instructional or curriculum specialists, learning facilitators, data coaches or department chairs. A good teacher is as skilled at a difficult, rewarding and beautiful craft as a noted sculptor, a concert pianist or a professional ballerina.
Teaching takes perseverance, it takes skill, and it takes practice. Lots of practice. The programme can be completed in a minimum of one year two semesters full-time or two years four semesters part-time. The maximum allowed is five years ten semesters , although you will normally be expected to complete the course within three academic years six semesters.

This module lays the foundations for the programme and ideally should be studied first. To achieve the MA in Catholic School Leadership, students need to complete a 20, word dissertation. Support is provided through two Saturday Schools at the beginning of the academic year in which the dissertation is due to be completed, and a third Saturday School at the beginning of the second semester. Although the prospect of producing such a significant piece of work can be quite daunting; it can also be very rewarding to complete a significant piece of original work that will contribute to a better understanding of Catholic education.
